The annual Spring Dinner of the Cameron County
Historical Society was held on April 21st at the VFW. One Hundred
members and guests enjoyed a great meal provided by the VFW Chef
(Verna?) and staff. President John Kautz addressed the group,
welcoming new members and old and talked about the accomplishments
achieved so far this year.
Marilyn Brown, Pat Martin and Jr. Murray were reelected to their Board
of Director positions by a unanimous vote.
Guest speaker Judge Richard Masson gave a riveting talk about Cameron
County's own Company C of the famed Bucktail Regiment. This
regiment earned high honors and achieved a heroic reputation during
the Civil War, beginning a tradition in Cameron County of offering her
sons to serve and protect our Nation when ever there is a call to
arms. A tradition we are duly proud of. Judge Masson's expertise and
capable story telling was truly enjoyable.
Judge Masson's talk was enhanced by a display of Civil War artifacts
supplied by Al Brown, Mike Wennin and the Little Museum. On display
were an authentic Harpers Ferry musket with bayonet, a cavalry saber,
bugles, cartridge belt and a photo of the Bucktail veterans at a 1892
reunion. Be sure to check out the display of Civil War related
militaria at the Little Museum!
The Society would like to thank all of those who made the event as
successful as it was.
